About The Event

Fracking has been happening in the Ohio River Valley for nearly 15 years, yet the Ohio River Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) has barely begun tracking the toxic pollution in the Ohio River from fracked gas. An example of this comes from the recent water pollution permit hearing for the PTTG ethane cracker plant. Ohio EPA stated that there is no baseline information on the current load of toxins in the Ohio River that will be released by the facility. The only information that is available is from ORSANCO, and it is very limited.

It is no coincidence that at the same time multinational corporations are pushing for the building of the Appalachian Petrochemical Hub, ORSANCO is trying to do away with the pollution control standards (PCS) that it has been setting for the entire length of the Ohio River since 1948. (See the recent article titled: Industries Try to Strip Power from Ohio River's Water Quality Commission.)

This is your opportunity to let the commissioners know your concerns about your water, the Ohio River, and fracking pollution.

The Sierra Club will be providing a van to and from the meeting. The bus will leave at about 5pm from John Marshall high school in Glendale. You can leave your car in the student parking lot to the left of the high school. This is where the bus will be. We will return by 10 PM.
