Below are some reasons why the PTT Global ethane cracker plant is a bad idea for the Ohio Valley

Pollutants include particulate matter (PM), PM10, PM2.5, nitrous oxide, and volatile organic compounds

There will not be very many long-term jobs that will result from this plant. Towns with cracker plants go through a boom-bust cycle without any sustainable economic benefit.

Air toxics emitted in excess of 1 ton per year include: hexane, ammonia, ethyl chloride. Other air toxics will be emitted but were not assessed.

The profits from the plant will go to countries in Asia, while the people of the Ohio Valley suffer the environmental and health effects and must pay for the health care costs.

Cold, dense air gets trapped by warmer, higher air creating what is called air inversions. Pollution can become trapped in the Ohio Valley's hills. The air is already compromised by many different  plants and facilities in the      Valley.

The noise and light pollution will affect the immediate area, as well as increased traffic and diesel fumes.

The plant would emit 1.785 million tons of greenhouse gases per year.  NASA reports that we could warm as much as 3.6 degrees F to 10.8F by 2100. This would result in more climate chaos.

Health problems that could result from the pollution from PTT Global's facility include: cancer, difficulty breathing, COPD, neurological and reproductive issues, stroke, asthma exacerbation, cardiovascular death, as well as developmental problems.

The Ohio Valley could potentially become another Cancer Alley similar to Louisiana.

Momentum will swing in the direction of more fossil fuel extraction during the exact moment in time when we need to lessen our dependence on it and instead create an economy based on clean energy to insure a viable future for our children.

PTT will be responsible for reporting their own emissions and there are no plans for fenceline monitoring. So essentially, there is no way of telling what exactly is going into the surrounding communities.

The cumulative impact of the increased pollution from diesel trucks, increased fracking, and all other development in the region has not been assessed.

Plastic can leech harmful chemicals like bisphenol A- a harmful hormone disrupting chemical.

Fracking waste fluid has been found to be radioactive.

The air permit was extremely deficient and not protective of human health. See this article from the Sierra Club about the appeal.

90% of sea birds have swallowed plastic at some point in their life. Plastic can block plankton and algae's access to sunlight, disturbing the food chain.

Collectively, fracking is NOT successful at making money. This project seems to be a tactic that the fracking companies are using to bail themselves out.

The last thing we need more of is plastic waste. There is a patch of garbage in the Pacific Ocean that is about twice the size of Texas, most of which is plastic.
